Adolescents

  I am unsure of how to mark adolescents that clearly have some chick plumage left and adult plumage too. How should we mark them?

  Hello Motherjoanne,
  If you are sure that it is a fledgling then you can still mark it as a chick. If you are unsure whether it is a chick or a moulting adult, then we have been advised to mark the penguin as an adult. Some adults moult at the same time as chicks so it can be very difficult to tell. The scientists will be aware of this dilemma! Others will mark this picture so the scientists will have plenty of information about it. Thank you for asking! Happy counting.
