Chinstrap Chicks or Eggs?
-
Looking at this picture it is difficult to tell whether there are eggs or chicks under these chinstraps. Is this picture during the season when they would be incubating eggs or raising chicks? Is there a guide somewhere that would be helpful?

Hi nthrockmorton
There is a great diagram of the breeding cycles for the various species of penguins here http://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/boards/BPZ0000002/discussions/DPZ00002pg
Most of the photos are date stamped (some at the top, others at the bottom).
For these chinstraps in December - they are likely to have eggs or recently hatched chicks.
Eggs are rarely seen so don't be surprised if you can't find any. But I can see several birds with small chicks - they look like fluffy grey balls!Hope this helps.
