areas of pictures

some pictures have "bright" and "dark" areas - am I supposed to scan also the "dark" areas?

The scientists want to concentrate on certain groups of penguins. There may be other groups within the picture, so the scientists shade those other areas to prevent us counting the wrong penguins. You will find that your marking circle turns into a 'no entry' sign over those areas, and you cannot mark them. You should ignore those penguins altogether. Thanks - and happy counting!
