Gray adults or baby?

some of the penguins are gray but the size of adults. Are they molting or just large baby chicks? How do you know which is which?

Hi. These look to be large chicks. There are two species here, Gentoos and Chinstraps. Have a look at the list of differences in our FAQ 3 point 2 which compares the adults and chicks for both these types. You will discover that the chinstrap marking and the white head marking on the Chinstrap and Gentoo adults respectively will help with chicks at this juvenile stage because they still lack those markings.. IF in doubt it is best to mark as 'adult'.

Hope you are enjoying the project 😃
