Please, share the id numbers (addresses) of all the images with wrongly placed shaded zones (=not in the background but in the foreground or on the sides of the site) here. Thanks!

Yes, I had a Hangouts call with Tom and Caitlin yesterday and I asked them about this problem. Actually, I've reported it a few months ago already. Then there were some reports about impossibility to mark penguins on the right side (you maybe remember such ones) and the devs weren't able to reproduce that.. So I came with the idea it could be caused by wrongly placed shaded zone.. But someone then told me the shaded zone wasn't wrong at the same image where the report appeared... So I thought that it is another issue.. And haven't see any wrongly placed shaded zones by myself since that until this month. After releasing the new data some questions about shaded zone in the foreground appeared again and I had clsassified such images too - I think that most of them were from the same site as I remember from the old data set.
I asked Tom whether it has a purpose or not. Tom was surprised and asked me to collect such number since it is a serious problem which has to be fixed!

BTW, all the images which have been mentioned here so far seem to be from the same site - telling by the IDs.

Can confirm that's the only site that I've noticed this problem on. It appeared about the 28/29 April. I didn't realize it was a mistake - though it seemed a bit odd.

It definitely isn't a new issue! I'll try to find the oldest report tonight.. Give an hour:)

Hi CandyDawn,
Thanks for drawing our attention to this issue. All of the images are from the same site- Booth Island. It seems that the regions of interest (where the images should be annotated) are skewed. We are working to fix this now. Thanks! CaitlinPosted

@Caitlin.black , do you want us to keep posting ID numbers for wrongly placed shaded zones? Do you want them all or just from different sites than Booth Isl. ones?

It looks like this has been resolved. I just classified APZ000490t, APZ00049nd and APZ00049tu from Booth Island. They were all grey-zone free. If I come across any other wonky grey zones, I will amend my post (the one on the first page of this thread).

This is so very odd and confusing. I just classified APZ00048h2, there was no shaded area. I've done tons of images from Booth during the past 2 days, all were unshaded.

Thank you guys for all your reports!! We do know about the wrongly places shaded zone in this site. It looks like the developers are currently waiting for a confirmation from the scientists to make some changes..
I think you don't have to report this site anymore.. unless they let us know it should have been fixed. But please, report any other site if there is a wrongly placed shaded zone too!
Thanks 😃

Hi @Gertarud
Thanks for your effort to help us. The image you link is obscured by something in front of the lens, which is not the shaded zone we're talking about in this thread. It would be visible in the classification mode only, not in the Talk and it wouldn't let you place any mark in that zone. Have you seen something like that while classifying that picture?
Thanks!
Zuzi
P.S.: I'll try to find any image example of the real shaded zone to make this clearer.

@Gertarud ,please, read my reply to your post above (posted 4 days ago) and reply to it. I'm afraid you have misunderstood the problem.
Thank you.

@yshish, ok, thanks for clarifying. I look forward to your picture of a shaded zone, and will ignore future blurry images until them.

Here they are:
An image where the shaded zone is displayed correctly - top/background part only:

Compare them with this image where the shaded zone is displayed incorrectly - bottom and right side/foreground:
Hope it is clear now. Thanks for your effort to help. We appreciate it!

Hi @lasena
Thanks for your intends to help, actually, the images you linked seem to be just obscured by snow on the lens. Have you checked what is this thread about? We talk about shaded zones placed in the images by scientists to make you focus on a smaller area, usually in the foreground. I showed some image examples how they look like. Please, check them out (on the previous page of this thread) and let me know whether I am right about your misunderstanding, so we could remove them.
Many thanks!
Cheers, Ysh_

Hello yshish,
at the beginning of this thread some people posted similar pictures like the ones i posted, that is why I posted the picture above here. I did not read the full thread. I understand the difference now, your examples made it clear. I'm sorry for the confusing.

@acanthizidae - The image you've linked is not the "wrongly placed shaded zone" discussed in this thread. It is simply snow on the lens. I've removed it to keep this issue understandable. You can learn to deal with such images in FAQs 1st AL, 3.

@WingedChicken. Thanks for your concern, but when you can read the WRONGLY PLACED SHADED ZONES thread you'll realize it's nothing to do with normal weather-obscured images such as the one you linked. I'll remove your link so as to keep this thread for the specific, scientist-applied shading that was used for a while. Please have a look at the reply I gave you for your image. Thank you! 😃
