Penguin Watch Talk

Their Location?

Why are they in a rocky environment, shouldn't they be in a cold and icy environment. it's strange to see them in this scenery. The only place where i have seen them in a rocky environment is the zoo.

Antarctica is a very interesting region, full of different geologic formations. Penguin species are equally varied and interesting with particular habitat needs. For Rockhoppers, Southern Gentoos, Adelies, and Chinstraps, rocky is normal and right. For Northern Gentoos and Macaronis, Tussock grass often forms part of their habitat. Much of the year, this particular area is covered with snow but this photo was made in summer, when nesting takes place. You can still see deep snow in the background. 😃

Edited to add: Have a look at this link from our FAQ. It shows maps of some of the general locations where our cameras are found and may answer some of your questions. 😃 FAQ7
