What are these marks in the snow?

Hi Rutta,
I popped a note out for you under the picture to explain that these are the patches left when penguins have been sitting down on the snow. The post just before your had some sitting penguins:

when those penguins sit up they will leave the same types of marks.

Another bit of proof is the brown streaks to the left of the patches - that's poop. When they eat fish the poop is white and those streaks show up well when the snow has gone. Penguins move around on their nests, and that creates a sort of poop-dial:

It's amazing what you learn about penguins once you can see them close-up 😃

Thank you! I hoped I had discovered a yeti, but suspected it was penguin related.

Penguins .... the give away are the lines of "poop art" 😃 (original question by Ipilarsk was what caused this penguins or footprints)

@suzeroo those lines in the black and white of this we saw may have been poop!! Back to the jetpacks!

Hello @Rutta89 😃 They are the flattened snow left when a penguin has been sitting on the snow. Penguins poop whilst sat down. Their poop

is red/brown after eating krill and that is why you see those brown streaks to one side of the flat snow 😃
