    What are these marks in the snow?

    Hi Rutta,
    I popped a note out for you under the picture to explain that these are the patches left when penguins have been sitting down on the snow. The post just before your had some sitting penguins:

    when those penguins sit up they will leave the same types of marks.

    Another bit of proof is the brown streaks to the left of the patches - that's poop. When they eat fish the poop is white and those streaks show up well when the snow has gone. Penguins move around on their nests, and that creates a sort of poop-dial:

    It's amazing what you learn about penguins once you can see them close-up 😃
