    Not in general - it depends... Nesting penguins are lying as well but it looks a bit differently since they're on nests and don't spread their legs/wings to cool themselves down like those chicks:]

    Hi anilam!

    Yes - especially if they are completely asleep like the chick near the left edge of the photo - about half way up. Laid out with its wings feet splayed out. These chicks are also fluffy, grey, and still getting their white tummy feathers. The adults are black and white and shiny 😃

    I notice that there are a few dead chicks in this photo. The chick at the middle of the bottom of the photo is probably recently dead. Others are smaller and dried up from the sun.
