The peng on the right is caked in ice on its face. Haven't see this at all before - what's happening please?

Wow, that's the nest that failed, isn't it? Perhaps it's in a particularly cold spot?

Yes it is banthesun - I hadn't made that connection! Perhaps it is a rotten site to pick? I wonder if we'll get to see it again next year?

That is a connection that I hadn't made either, but surely it is just as cold up the hill and out on that point, and they have raised their chicks. It might just be coincidence as I thought she had chosen a rather busy pathway area where "accidents" could be more prone to happen.
What gets me is how does a penguin breath through a beak encased in ice? Even the eyes look frozen shut!!
