Penguins

Is this how penguins feed themselves because it looks like they are hunting for food to eat.

    Hi @fredmoore21

Adult penguins feed themselves in the sea. These penguins came to this place to find their mates and start a family. This is their favourite nesting site where they'll build their pebble nests............

Hope it answers your question. Check out the FAQs for more information 😃

    Cheers,
    Z.

    Hello fredmoore21!

It is clever of you to spot that they are looking for things. They fish out at sea (which is just off to the left of this picture). So they are not seeking food at this moment. But to be able to fish AND stay dry and warm their feathers must be perfect so you see some of them preening and cleaning and spreading self-produced oil around themselves.

But they also build nests out of pebbles to rest on when brooding their eggs. It's just possible for them to get through this thin layer of snow and ice to reach those precious pebbles. And you see some of the penguins looking for pebbles. When they are pairing up before breeding starts, the male sets up a nest in order to show how much he wants a mate. Sometimes they steal each other's pebbles when they can not be seen or discovered doing it! So pebbles are very important.

When they are brooding their eggs the pebbles keep the egg off the bare hard flat rock and out of any puddles of melting snow.

I hope this helps you 😄
