hidden eggs

  • dgauthier1009 by dgauthier1009

Generally around 28 at this site. There must be some eggs under there or at least chicks -- around the 13th there were several large chicks clearly visible, however this camera was obscured by spray/debris by that time.

Hi dgauthier1009! During December they are sitting on eggs (don't mark them unless you positively see them). We know that there were hatchings around the 21st December, perhaps even a week earlier for some. During the first week we don't see much of the chicks because, as you say, they are well tucked away under mum/dad. After that we see them quite a lot more. The date of the 13th would have been January and you would certainly see them by then at about 3/4 weeks old 😃 We did have a few days in mid-January where there was rain/snow on the lens. However by continuing to mark the penguins that we can still see the mapping system (not visible to us) can still make sense of the number seen.

There is more information to help with many aspects of PW in the FAQ Boards here: https://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/boards/BPZ0000007/

I hope you are enjoying the project 😃
