Creching behaviour

For those interested in diving deep into scientific studies of creching, here's an article titled "Creching behaviour of Adelie penguin chicks":
http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/03014223.1982.10423856It says:
-
"The colony adult:chick ratio was inversely related to the percentage of chicks creching within the colony...., the likelihood of creching occurring or not occurring was equiprobable when the adult:chick ratio was 0.88."
-
"creching behaviour is... associated with the numbers of adults present in the colony. A decrease in the relative number of adults correlated with the formation of creches. Conversely, when the relative number of adults is sufficiently large (i.e., greater than 1 adult per chick) creching does not occur."
