Identity of the small birds on the rocks left of the chinstrap penguins

  • domw405 by domw405

What are the birds on the rocks left of the small birds on the rocks left of the chinstrap penguins? I tagged them as Southern Giant Petrels, but they look like Blue Petrels to me. Can anyone who is expert confirm or deny this? Many thanks.

They are not as small as they may seem to be, but in a big distance. There are many Antarctic shags (cormorants), the same birds are you can see just behind the penguins. They look very alike, but have longer necks and different body shape. Check out the FAQs for more information about how to tell these birds apart. We mark them as Other birds without choosing any option.

Giant petrels are huge birds, bigger than penguins. They are feeding on penguin chicks/eggs. Please, don't mark Shags as petrels as they are no threat to penguins. Thanks 😃
