Eggs?

  • CCurtiss by CCurtiss

Are there eggs under what looks like a flap of fat resting on their flippers?
    Thank you,

Hello CCurtiss. The date is mid February so way too late for eggs. They hopefully will have eggs under them next year! The brown shaggy penguin, centre bottom of picture, is a teenager just about to moult into adult feathers.

Sorry I have to correct your answer. The King penguins actually has got a special (and a very long) breeding cycle. They can be laying their eggs from November to the 2nd half of April however they can be hardly ever seen. They keep them hidden under that fold of abdominal skin (to keep them warm) you can see under their bellies.

Please, don't mark any eggs which are covered with that abdominal skin, just the ones you can really see on the ground.

Thank you both, to @CCurtiss for an interesting question and to @AvastMH for her nice reply:)
