  I like Zuzi's reply. I have a picture from last year which shows the radial poop marks very well:

  

  If the poop is white it shows that the penguins have been eating a lot of fish. If it is red they have been eating a lot of krill (which is a bit like pink shrimps).

  White poop is also the result when the penguins are not eating, as during the time period when the females are laying the eggs.
