chicks and eggs

    Hi, @penguinman2004 . You'll get used to seeing them. In this photo there are chicks visible in the bottom right corner. From the corner trace straight up. That penguin is partially our of camera range, but we can see a fuzzy "cushion" below its belly. That's a chick! Travel straight up once again to the next penguin in that same area. Look- two fuzzy "cushions"!

    Take heart- it can be tricky to see them, especially in an early morning photo like this, but it will get easier. Just please read the FAQs, and mark only what you are certain you see.

    Eggs are harder to spot. I recommend you read through lots of the Recent comments, learning from other volunteers' comments and moderators' responses. Eggs must be visible and in a nest to be counted. Eggshells are never marked. Look for rounded-ovals, perhaps white, often mucky brown from penguin poo, and usually spotted from the front as a penguin stretches or a mated pair changes nest duty.
