According to my research, there is just 320,000 breeding pairs of Gentoo Penguins!

That's interesting! Don't forget to say your source of information ( if you can). 320,000 is not a lot. But we hope to get those numbers increasing again. We've already had some success I understand.
There's more info on our short science page: https://www.penguinwatch.org/#/science
And Dr Hart's done some interesting blogs: https://penguinlifelines.wordpress.com/

Thank you - always good to quote this detail as it recognizes other's scientific research and allows others to assess how they view that information. 😄

I have another question; what is the Genus name of Gentoo Penguins?
According to The Gentoo Penguin page on Wikipedia , it is Pygoscelis!

Gentoo is Pygoscelis papua
Adelie is Pygoscelis adeliae
Chinstrap is Pygoscelis antarctica
These look related and they are related . They are also called 'fan tailed' penguins as a group. Sometimes you spot the tail in the fan shape.
A really good site for learning more is: http://www.photovolcanica.com/ which might sound a bit odd, but there are volcanoes in Antarctica, and that site has decide to cover good detail about the penguin inhabitants. http://www.photovolcanica.com/PhotovolcanicaFullIndex.html#Penguins has a useful index. We have seen the Pygoscelids, King Penguins, Rockhoppers, Macaronis and Magellanic penguins from that list over the last year on PenguinWatch.
