What type of penguins?

    I found it hard to tell which type these were.. Any suggestions?

    These are Adélie penguins. You can generally recognize them by their black and 'short' looking beak (partly hidden amongst their feathers). They also tend to have a bit of a 'stockier' posture than Gentoos. Closeup you'd also notice their flesh-colored feet.

    One of my favorite types of penguins, these. Extremely expressive. Not doing so well, sadly, since increasing temperatures are making life somewhat unpleasant for them.

    Yes, these are Adélies, as explained by Sitandslide. Adult Adélie have black chins. Gentoo adults also have black chins but also have a white headflash mark. In this photo of the same site you can see a nesting pair of Gentoos at the bottom. Compare them to the nesting Adélies at the top. Sooty rookery

    To be clear, @robynpyne , the only reason you need to know species is to recognize the difference between adults and chicks when marking an image. When you can't tell which they are, please just mark as adult as in the FAQs.
