Potential Chicks?

  • SenanC12 by SenanC12

I think there could be one or two chicks since the adult penguins are looking down, possibly at the potential chicks but I am not too sure.

Hi SenanC12 😃 You are very observant - well done. Don't forget that we never mark anything that we cannot see for sure.

We've got a wealth of information about penguins and marking tips in the FAQ sections. https://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/boards/BPZ0000007

There's a breeding cycle section (FAQ 4) which will show that the chicks of these Adelies are fledging by this date. Dates vary a little dependent on where they live. Also the adults are starting to moult, so it's very difficult to tell them apart. We have an easy solution for that - mark the penguin as 'adult' if you are unsure of its age 😃

It must be a terrible day given how dark it seems to be at 1pm. What penguins do during darkness is all new to science (imagine sitting out in an Antarctic winter during the night!). So well done for marking this one carefully.

    Thanks for joining PW 😃
