Those #gulls are coming in to feed on what remains of the chick that died there. Have never seen these pengs split quite like this before..?

As yshish has said, the penguin flocks split when predators or scavengers are present. Quite common. 😃

Though it's tempting to come to conclusions from the images we've seen, these are huge flocks, and we'd need much more data to really understand all that is going on.
