@Aha88 Where can you see it? It is half of February, all chicks are pretty big already, the mating season is over for a couple of months.

As coldcounter suggests, there are three such adult/chick pairs in the foreground of the photo: front left, back left, back centre.

Doubt if this is a pair mating - too late in the season. Winter coming, not enough time for the chick to incubate

Correct- we've explained that we're seeing parent/chick pairs in this image. 😃 Also, chicks seem to have begun gathering in creches.

Sometimes gentoo pairs whose nest has failed will mate, beginning a 2nd clutch. These are not as successful as the first for reasons noted by GizmoMischief.
