@Aha88 Where can you see it? It is half of February, all chicks are pretty big already, the mating season is over for a couple of months.

Hi yshish .... do you think Aha88 might be looking at the parent bird shielding the chick on the left front edge? just a thought.... 😃

As coldcounter suggests, there are three such adult/chick pairs in the foreground of the photo: front left, back left, back centre.

I agree that the peng-with-chick in guard position bottom left could be thought to be mating by a new penguin watcher 😃

    Oh, indeed 😄 I haven't noticed them 😃

Doubt if this is a pair mating - too late in the season. Winter coming, not enough time for the chick to incubate

hatch and grow to "seafaring" size with waterproof feathers. Abandoned egg just to the right

Correct- we've explained that we're seeing parent/chick pairs in this image. 😃 Also, chicks seem to have begun gathering in creches.

Sometimes gentoo pairs whose nest has failed will mate, beginning a 2nd clutch. These are not as successful as the first for reasons noted by GizmoMischief.
