Oh my- I can see why you asked! That nest had 2 chicks. It's funny how well their colouring and posture makes it look like 3.

I think the righthand chick lies with its neck extended over its sibling to our left, and the left hand chick is pretending to be twins.

We'll see if other moderators see anything I've missed! 😃 Rarely, 2 females will lay eggs in one nest, and then you might see 3 chicks.

Yep, there are two chicks only. As you said, @gardenmaeve ,the tail coloration we look at directly makes the illusion of two bodies 😃

But it is actually just one + the other chick next to it. In total, it is two of them.
