We do see eggs and chicks at the same time, but not usually eggs being brooded while all other nests have good-sized chicks.

really interesting, I wonder if this was one of the dead chicks seen later on as the parents didn't have enough time

to wait for it to fledge before they headed out to sea again, or perhaps a non-viable egg? It does look clean and newly laid though...

The dead chicks we saw were from this year this is last year's colony?

Those were 2016, yes. This image is the year before. We don't have enough information to draw any conclusions. Perhaps we'll learn more. 😃
