Yes, sadly, chicks do often die. They will help feed other animals, including sheathbills and their chicks. Nothing is wasted.

@Tejh0 - As discussed in comments prior to yours, two chicks have died and will nourish other animals. The white Snowy sheathbill should be marked. It's on your Other list.
