Penguin Watch Talk
very dirty egg!
Having trouble working out if that's a chick under Adelie bottom RHS.... is it too early for hatchlings?
love the reflection....
Ag people! Unless they're researchers, step away from the penguins!
People, grrrrr
Poor little chickie on the edge RHS bottom of screen... I hope he's not dead π¦
hatch and grow to "seafaring" size with waterproof feathers. Abandoned egg just to the right
Doubt if this is a pair mating - too late in the season. Winter coming, not enough time for the chick to incubate
glorious summer day π
He could just be turning the egg.... shifting position
Woo-hoo!! Images from this year!
Ha! the tourists will need something a lot bigger than that iceberg to hide behind
What a glorious summer day π
footprints.... SO cute!
What is that little bird (RHS)? It doesn't look like anything on the "others" list
It's a messy business bringing the next generation into the world!
Penguins don't seem terribly fazed about the sheathbill!
d'oh!! forgot to change from Adelie's in previous image to Gentoos!
Ag I miss rearing penguins!
remains of shell bottom right of image - awwww
love seeing the babies being fed
Gotta love Adelies... seems the Gentoo loves hanging out with them π
brrrr...makes me cold just looking at it!
doncha just love a blizzard
Did I spy a couple of Adelies in there; besides poor dead chickie?
Madam Olenska is teaching a class to sing their heartsongs (top left) π
Mixed species; and humans..... not OK!
The light is beautiful! And so are the pengies π
mixed colony - one Gentoo in with Adelies
Hope I've got them all - tricky in this snow even when you know where the nests are
Mixed species - one Gentoo and lots of Adelies
The redcoats are here again!
Super cute!!
Damn tourists.... step away from the penguins!!
Finally seeing some chicks here!
Some of these are clearly this season's chicks - still losing their baby fluff. Is this a juvenile crèche?
Geez, more ships... I think the Antarctic is over-touristed!
Poor dead chickie.... π¦
Big black ban across the image - couldn't see all the penguins
bottom of the image obscured on my screen by a thick black band..
They're keeping them warm π
So good to see so many pengies raising two chicks
I think it's a skua but I can't get a good enough image on my laptop to say for sure
Not a penguin - legs are too far forward. I've put it down as other
oh but isn't it interesting when another species turns up where you've only seen one before? Are the chinstraps moving in π
Some of these penguins are looking quite skinny - guess they must be waiting for partners to come back for a shift change on the eggs
Ag, so hard to see if these are Gentoos or Adelies - think I saw the white head patch π
nests already built - busy incubating π
We maybe need a class for juveniles... some of these are still moulting into adult feathers as far as I can see but don't class as chicks
See the cute penguin on the left who looks like he's wearing black boots π
Hard not to feel attached to these critters after a while - seeing images from the same viewpoint you get to "know" the adults and babies!
