Penguin Watch Talk

7th Graders

  • jennfurr by jennfurr

My son was in class yesterday, and during free time, he had gone onto Penguin Watch to do some counts (I had no clue he was that interested!). The teacher came up behind him and started asking him questions, thought it was really cool, and asked whether anyone could do this.... fast forward - he's giving this site to his entire 7th grade class to show them about penguins!

My son gets sooooo excited when he sees an egg or something unusual, like a boat or people. 😃

Oh gosh!! How exciting jennfurr. Please do tell us more if you wish to - we love to hear about schools enjoying PW. It's good for the penguins and GREAT for citizen science 😄

We have a couple of really young counters (we nick-named them 'The Creche Counters'). Here's Annika making #DailyZooniverse a year ago: https://daily.zooniverse.org/2015/02/24/meet-annika-our-youngest-zooite/

And here's a reward for your son's work...the penguins at Port Lockroy playing hide and seek with some kayakers... http://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/subjects/APZ0002yuk sadly we don't have pictures of this site at the moment.

And two penguins looking at some tourists with disbelief (how could you ever catch krill wearing all of that bright get-up??): http://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/subjects/APZ0001zr6 (also a missing site this year 😃 )

Oh, this is awesome!! We would be extremely happy for a report by your son/his teacher, if they had a PW lesson at school 😃

Thanks for sharing that with us.
