Hi everyone,
banthesun spotted an egg under the penguin on the right -I think it's just laying the egg...any thoughts?

Hi Joan,
Please, what exactly makes you think that it's just laying the egg? That would never come to my mind:]

Oh, look at this one: http://talk.penguinwatch.org/#/subjects/APZ0001k1l .. I'm sorry to disprove your idea, but it shows the same nest with two eggs at once a few days ago!

Pl. pardon my ignorance. When penguins lay eggs, do they:
1: stand up/upright (in which case the egg will be in front of the penguin)
OR
2: lie belly down (in which case the egg will come out from behind / the back end of the penguin)
OR
either stand or lie down? The two images mentioned show the penguins standing with eggs in front of them.
And I found this image of a rockhopper penguin lying down with an egg emerging from its behind:

Yes, that's exactly what I would expected from penguins lying an egg (However we had a bird which was used to lying eggs while flying or sitting on the frame of a picture placed in the wall..) But these linked images doesn't look like lying at all. The first one was disproved by the older photo anyway:]
Thanks for the Rockhopper's photo!

I am more than happy to accept your decisions 😃 I saw a programme about pengs and one laid it's egg pretty much standing up. Can't recall which type though 😃
